We need protein!

Protein is the building block of our cells. We require it daily. Adequate protein intake helps us feel full, stabilizes blood sugar and wards off headaches - among many other things. Pregnant mamas need between 80-100 grams of protein per day as part of a healthy diet. How do you get your protein?

For lunch today, I wanted to use some of the canned organic pumpkin puree that I have in the fridge. Here is what I combined in the blender:

1 frozen banana

1 c pumpkin puree

3/4 c frozen kale

1 scoop whey protein

4 ice cubes

dash of - s&p, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon & nutmeg and vanilla

1 dried Medjool date

a dollop of pure maple syrup

enough plain almond milk to blend

It was delicious! If you try it, do let me know what you think. It is fun to play around with smoothie ingredients. Three cheers for body building protein!
