Summer 2023

When I was young, I never thought much about life past the age of 30. I don’t know why - it just didn’t occur to me. Now I am getting close to twice that age, and life keeps going. The kids grow up, and my husband keeps going to work. I have time for midwifery studies, clinical work and most anything else that I really want to fit in.

I have made it to Phase 3 with MCU. This is known as “primary midwife under supervision”. It creates an interesting challenge for my preceptor, as she is supposed to step back and let me practice making fundamental decisions about clients’ care. I imagine that it might be very difficult to allow others to step in when wanting to offer the best care in our “own” way and space.

In any case, my Phase 3 courses are planned out through Summer 2024 - then I should be finished, God willing. Wrapping my head around all the things to learn, remember and practice can be overwhelming. I won’t ever feel like I know “everything”. I hope to practice as a midwife always in collaboration with colleagues and other professionals to inform wise decisions and provide the BEST care!
